Having been cooped up in his home city of Sydney for way too long, The Travel Authority Group CEO, Peter Hosper, has just returned from a road trip to Victoria.
“It felt so good to be out on the road going somewhere,” says Hosper.
Rather than grab an Uber to Sydney Airport and fly, Peter jumped behind the wheel himself, and headed south towards Goulburn. An hour-and-a-half due west of Goulburn—past Gunning, Yass and Bookham—beside the Murrumbidgee River, sits the idyllic village of Jugiong, home of The Sir George.

Here’s what he had to say about it:
“The Sir George enjoys a great setting that’s ideal for weddings, special occasions and events. The rooms are nicely appointed, although we couldn’t access any live TV broadcasts (we wanted to watch the tennis) so had to settle for the selection of streaming platforms which are available to all guests.
“Breakfast was pre-prepared and waiting in the fridge on arrival. I’m typically not a big fan of that, but it was actually very nice: fruit, granola, yoghurt, freshly baked sourdough from the on-site bakery, fruit compote, honey, jam, vegemite etc., and a selection of fine teas, Nespresso coffee and juices. For the price I expected a fully cooked breakfast but the (beautifully restored) pub is closed in the mornings so I guess that’s the limitation for now.
“Dinner was fabulous, and did a great job of showcasing local wine and produce. We absolutely loved the wine cellar where Kim does wine and cheese tastings on-demand. He is quite a character.”
The Sir George is a boutique country retreat by the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. It is home to lovely accommodation, a restaurant and bar, pub, cafe and artisan bakery.
Accommodation is offered in the recently restored and renovated 1845 Stone Stables that have been converted into THREE luxurious rooms, as well as in EIGHT Black Barns, providing a modernistic example of the original out-buildings of this historic property.
THE HERITAGE STABLES
Re-built by the great, great grandson of the original proprietor John Philip Sheahan, the ‘Stables’ offers guests a chance to step back in time with all the mod-cons you’d expect from luxury accommodation.

BLACK BARN LUXURY

Located at the top of the garden, the Barns overlook the historic pub with views of the rural hillsides beyond.

THE KITCHEN
The Sir George’s food philosophy is ‘fresh, local and seasonal’. Whether it’s the herbs grown in the kitchen garden or ‘Cooridoone’ lamb produced just minutes down the road, menus here are constantly changing.
Charcuterie and artisan breads are made in-house.
The Sir George’s restaurant is open to house guests seven nights a week.

THE ARTISAN BAKERY
Famous for its line of sourdough items—including donuts—the bakery uses the finest local ingredients, and bakes all of its cakes in-house using wood-fired ovens and traditional techniques.
Yum.
